What Causes Bad Breath
Bad breath is a problem nearly everyone faces at one time or another. According to an article from the Harvard Health Blog, around 30% of the population has halitosis (bad breath). Some people may have pseudo-halitosis, believing they have bad breath even when they don’t. It can affect people’s lives to the point they can develop a phobia called halitophobia.
WHAT CAUSES BAD BREATH?
Many things cause bad breath. It can result from common dental problems like plaque on your teeth and debris on your tongue. It can also be a result of lifestyle choices such as the use of tobacco products or a new diet. Conditions such as the dry mouth and acid reflux are known to cause this problem. Medical conditions such as mouth, nose, throat infections, renal failure, and diabetes can cause bad breath. Medications can do so, as well.
HOW DO I TREAT IT?
Treating halitosis requires good oral hygiene and can include home remedies.
ORAL HYGIENE
For good oral hygiene, it’s essential to have healthy dental habits. This includes brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing once a day, scraping your tongue, and using a mouthwash rinse once a day can also help. It’s essential to keep your dentures or other dental appliances clean. It would be best if you replaced your toothbrush regularly. Another essential part of maintaining good oral hygiene is to schedule regular dental checkups and cleanings. Here at Wytheville Dental Group, we offer dental cleanings along with other routine dentistry services.
